Over time, our bodies naturally undergo gradual changes. Whether it's muscle tone, joint flexibility, metabolism, or the immune system, aging impacts us in various ways. But aging well isn't just about reacting to these changes—it's primarily about preparing for them in advance.
Introducing the right food supplements early helps you stay energetic to enjoy the years to come.
How does the body change with age?
Bones and Joints
As early as 35, bone mass begins to decrease, and this loss accelerates after menopause in women. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), osteoporosis affects approximately one in three women and one in five men over 50. Joint cartilage wears down over time, and it is estimated that osteoarthritis affects 10% of men and 18% of women over 60. Tendons and ligaments also lose elasticity, increasing stiffness and joint pain.
Muscle Mass and Body Fat
Sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass and strength, begins as early as age 30. On average, a loss of 3 to 8% of muscle mass is observed every 10 years. Simultaneously, body fat increases, particularly in the abdomen. By age 75, the proportion of body fat can be twice as high as in youth.
Skin and Collagen
Natural collagen production decreases by about 1% per year from age 25. This decline leads to thinner, drier, and less elastic skin. Visible effects include wrinkles, pigment spots, loss of firmness, and slower healing. Sun exposure accentuates these phenomena by degrading collagen and elastin fibers.
Immune System
With age, the immune system becomes less efficient, a phenomenon called immunosenescence. Immune cells react less effectively, which increases susceptibility to infections (flu, pneumonia, etc.), slows healing, and reduces vaccine efficacy. Older individuals have a 4 to 10 times higher risk of serious complications in case of infection.
Heart and Circulation
The aging of the cardiovascular system results in a thickening of the heart muscle, a stiffening of the arteries, and a reduction in maximal heart rate during exercise. High blood pressure affects approximately 60% of people over 65. These changes reduce physical performance and increase cardiovascular risk.
